Houston Psychtesting
Dr. Elie Cohen is a licensed clinical psychologist based in Houston, TX, and licensed in Texas, New York, and over 40 other states through PSYPACT (with more on the way). He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University in Long Island, NY.
Over the years, Dr. Cohen has worked in a wide range of settings, including outpatient community mental health, college counseling, intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs, community and state inpatient psychiatry, and state forensic hospitals. He completed his postdoctoral training in skilled nursing homes and short-term medical rehabilitation facilities, where he gained extensive experience helping people navigate both psychological and medical challenges.
In 2015, Dr. Cohen founded his private practice in New York, focusing on psychological and psychoeducational testing, individual and couples therapy, and consultation for mental health startups and employee assistance programs. In the summer of 2023, he and his wife, their two teenage kids, and their fluffy 5-lb dog Zoe relocated to Houston, where he has expanded his in-person practice while continuing to work with individuals across the U.S. remotely.
Dr. Cohen has also served as Assistant Professor and Deputy Chair of Psychology at Touro University, where he coordinated the Office of Students with Disabilities. In that role, he connected students with accommodations that supported their learning, test-taking, and daily functioning, fostering a more inclusive and supportive academic environment.
In his testing practice, Dr. Cohen is especially passionate about creating a neurodiversity-affirming space. He finds great fulfillment in helping people and families better understand themselves — whether that means identifying ADHD, a learning disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or other factors that influence how someone shows up at school, at work, and in life.
He also provides evaluations for fitness to return to safety-sensitive duty for individuals whose work falls under the Department of Transportation (DOT) or the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). For these evaluations, he is certified as both a SAP (Substance Abuse Professional) and an SAE (Substance Abuse Examiner) under DOT regulation 49 CFR Part 40 and NRC regulation 10 CFR Part 26.187.
At the heart of his work, Dr. Cohen believes in meeting people where they are, with warmth, respect, and curiosity. He values helping clients discover their strengths, understand their challenges, and move toward growth in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.
